Living & Giving Generously
Two passages come to mind when considering our giving: "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness" (Matt 6:33), and "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Luke 12:34). In the first, Jesus reminds us that God knows our need, and as we commit to placing the things of God ahead of our needs, we will find Him faithful to meet those needs. In the second, Jesus points out that our heart actually follows our money! Our interests and affections are confirmed by our financial choices. What a paradox!
Having a Kingdom focus requires action. It calls us to re-prioritize our lives to increasingly align with our King's desires, including the area of our giving. Ultimately, such action flows from His nature in us. God gives, and those who are His find joy in expressing that nature back to Him in our living and giving.
Is it easy? Not always! There are many things vying for those resources. But our giving needs to cost us something, or it isn't really a measure of our devotion for our King. David demonstrated this when he refused to worship by giving that which cost him nothing (2 Samuel 24:18-25).
We're all invited to demonstrate our love for Christ in our giving, and by doing so, storing up treasure in heaven, rather than on earth (Matt 6:19-20). Please join us in the joy of Kingdom giving!
